I was volunteering at the shelter the Flagstaff shelter the other day, and have the most amazing story to share.
Last month I took a new patient case. She was struggling with her life in the States, having married an American she met online who turned out to be very abusive. She had been trying for two years to become a U.S. citizen, but hadn’t had any success yet with the immigration office. Because of this she was forced to move from shelter to shelter, her two kids in tow. When I met her she was feeling very poorly, struggling with an irregular menstrual cycle, feeling very depressed and frustrated. She had just been put on depo shots to regulate her cycle but it made her bleed profusely. I took her full case, meaning I took her entire health history but I also looked a little deeper into all of her symptoms. I had been thinking I could prescribe a homeopathic remedy as part of her treatment plan. I love homeopathy, its a system of energetic medicine that matches the totality of a patient’s symptoms with a medicine. When you match the symptoms correctly, you get a shift in how the patient feels, often with a complete resolution of symptoms.
I advised the patient to go off the depo shots, return to the prescribing physician and request a pap and ultrasound of her abdomen to ensure she was not bleeding from a cause such as uterine fibroids, and prescribed one homeopathic remedy called phosphoric acid. I counseled her about her immigration status, reminding her that she has to speak and think what she wants to see in her life, and to be careful about NOT saying things like “oh, I’ll just be deported!”
Last week at our follow-up her depressed and frustrated symptoms were completely resolved. She felt joyous, and hopeful! Going off depo had a huge impact in how she felt and the irregular bleeding had stopped. She was feeling positive, remembering to speak out what she wanted, and she had an appointment with the Immigration office that she KNEW was going to be her moment. She KNEW she was going to be granted U.S. citizenship and given a fresh start. She had cut and styled her hair for the first time in two years and was nothing but smiles.
I love what naturopathic medicine can do! –Dr. Gowey, NMD
Viral diseases can be tricky to diagnose and tricky to treat. Viral conditions and symptoms tend to come and go, or advance to more chronic diseases. Many times doctors will miss the right diagnosis, which then allows the virus to go untreated. Viral load goes up and symptoms progress. I have been treating a lot of conditions caused by viruses, and have successfully come up with protocols that is getting patients better. Dr. Gowey, NMD
We recently received two grants for our shelter outreach, one from BNSF Railway and the other from the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. Both are for medical supplies and costs associated with our volunteer programs. Thank you!
Recent studies are showing that the chemicals in teflon pans are a cause of ADHD in children. For more information go to http://www.facebook.com/1/pAQCQmrzAQDAjPHy412_1YvZsBb08UKU-5euZYpWUF7q/pubs.acs.

Great day seeing patients here! Had a tachycardia case, no known cause that anyone knew. Identified a cause after doing some research/taking a good case and found the right treatment for this patient!
Also have a lady with pain for almost 50 years getting better now on vitamin IV infusions…go naturopathic medicine!
We are still trying to get our mobile medical unit up and running. It needs heat/cooling and a generator if anyone can donate them, that would be awesome. I’d like to hire nurses to begin staffing our shelter programs.
Thanks! Have a great weekend! Dr. Gowey, NI Founder/President
I love what I do. Naturopathic medicine, in its striving to treat causes of disease, is so incredibly powerful.
I just did a three-week follow-up on a child with wheezing in his lungs (indicative of asthma), sore throat, slight ear infection, post nasal drip, fatigue, and allergies. After taking his history, I decided on eliminating a few foods from his diet. He worked with his parents to follow my suggestions and now I am very proud to say all his symptoms are gone. When he was ill his parents wouldn’t allow him to go outside to play because the high pollen count in Flagstaff made his symptoms worse~
He’s playing outside again! ~Dr. Gowey, NMD 928-214-8793
Hello!
Reminder of our fabulous convention this weekend! Saturday from 8-4. Please be there to register before 9 am for our opening ceremonies!
We have an absolutely fantastic line-up, with speakers coming from across AZ and beyond…! The Flagstaff YMCA staff will be here enliving us with zumba, yoga and more. I hope to see all of you there. If you were not able to receive one of the free community passes for the workshops only, mention it at the door that you are a community pass member and would like to attend.
I am very grateful for all the support I have received these last few years in my pursuit of building Naturopaths International. I feel this weekend will be a turning point for NI, its future, and the future of its patients. Blessings and hope to see you there! ~Dr. Brandie Gowey, NMD
My brother Jeremiah passed last year on June 28th, 2010. He was an agent of the U.S. Border Patrol, a post he choose because he felt like he wanted to protect and serve our country. He also choose it because he wanted to follow in his sister’s footsteps of service to humanity~
On June 25th at our second annual convention, the U.S. Border Patrol is sending 6 agents to open our event by Presenting the Colors. I ask that all attendees please be here no later than 9 am for this, as I feel so honored to have these people drive up from Tuscon to do this, to recognize service and my brother. ~Dr. Gowey, NMD
It is such an honor to be a naturopatic physician! I was able to call yet ANOTHER patient today to tell them they are getting better; this was a patient who had struggled with fibroids, and now they are gone! Thank you to my medical school for giving me such a top-notch education. And thank you to the patients who continue to support their naturopathic doctors! ~Dr. Gowey
Dr. Gowey picked up our first mobile medical trailer made by Wells Cargo Trailers of Phoenix, AZ, over the weekend. This trailer will allow two doctors to work at a time, and comes equip with all we need to do physical exams, acupuncture, nutritional IV therapies, and consultations. Dr. Gowey will start taking this trailer to sites within Flagstaff starting in July. Flagstaff YMCA will be one of our sites! 928-214-8793
